The liberation of the city of Kilkis is celebrated with a series of events in collaboration with all the cultural associations of Kilkis, in commemoration of the liberation of the city by the Greek army in 1913. The events take place from late May to late June, and include exhibitions of painting, concerts, speeches, sporting events, dances and the presentation of the work of departments operating in OPONGA.
In the village of Colchida, during late August, the people celebrate the memory of St. Fanourios. In addition to the events with dancing, food and wine, the women of the village prepare a Fanouropita. This is a fasting pie that is made in the memory of St.Fanourios (27/08) and is offered as a blessing to the faithful. It is a custom that began as a pious gesture of the believers (especially the females and the name of the Saint has been associated with finding lost objects and people) and we do not think that it conceals something abnormal or ugly.
These events are held during the first week of August in the lovely plane-tree area in Palaio Gynaikokastro, at the root of the Byzantine castle. Lots of music, dancing, and traditional bands from every part of the world, plays and games entertain children and adults.
The celebration of the Virgin Mary in Goumenissa attracts many people from the region, where apart from the church praises and procession of the icon of the Virgin Mary, one can attend many other cultural events.

"Axioupolitika" are cultural and sporting events taking place in the period after mid-August (approximately between the 17th to 27th of August). This is the most important event in the region of Axioupolis and includes dancing performances of the cultural associations, theater performances, competitions and events, music festivals and conferences regarding the issues of the region and church praises.
During the Carnival, the representation of the custom of «Monk» takes place in Vaptistis. The weekend before Clean Monday, there are carnival events in Kilkis. A carnival celebration is staged each year in the pedestrian street in Kilkis, on the last Saturday of the Carnival. Children and adults have the opportunity to dance and have fun. During the concert, the team that wins the "Treasure Hunt", which was conducted on the morning of the same day, is also announced.
In Kastanies, on Sunday morning, chariots and masquerades parade on the main square of the village marking, thus, the end of Carnival.
One of the many events of the cultural association of Aspros and the best of them all is the carnival on Clean Monday. On this day, a parade of soldiers takes place, followed by free bean-soup and dancing in the village’s square. Many people from the surrounding areas arrive early and a "festival" of joy for children and adults takes place. Initiators and founders of the carnival were the teacher of the school in 1985 George Ktenidis, along with Elias Ivanoudis. The warm acceptance of the idea by many villagers who immediately approached the group, from then until today with the grand participation of youth, which is the backbone of the event, makes the carnival of Aspros successfully every year.
This is one of the biggest events of the Educational and Cultural Association of Kampani, in the Municipality of Gallikos, that gathers the crowds. In order to revive and disseminate the musical and dancing tradition, the Festival takes place every year in mid-April at the Sports Hall of Kampani. Beyond the children’s dance classes of the Associations of Kilkis, various children dance groups (children aged 5-13) from various associations in Greece also visit Kampani and present dances of Macedonia, Thrace, Pontos, Crete and other islands.
On the Clean Monday, celebrations take place in Kato Potamia and Megali Vrysi. Kites and traditional dishes give a different color to the settlements of Kilkis
Early in September, on the occasion of the traditional fairs of Kilkis, cultural events take place here. It is a cause for citizens to come together with music and songs under the framework of commercial transactions that take place in the Town Hall Square.

In the beautiful grove of Leventochori, immediately after the protests under labor claims are over, the residents and visitors gather to celebrate the arrival of spring.
On the 28th of November the commemoration of the patron saints of the city "Five and Ten" Martyrs takes place. For about a month (from early November to early December) many cultural events of OPONGA in collaboration with the cultural associations contribute into giving a different color to the celebration.

19th of May: Commemoration of the Genocide of the Greeks of Pontos in Nea Santa.
Almost every year since 1995, the Association of Pontians of Nea Santa organizes commemorations of the Genocide of the Greeks in Anatolia during the period 1916-1923. The remembrance events for the 353.000 victims of Turkish atrocities committed in Nea Santa take place in the Church of Metamorphosis of our Savior and Captain Euclides’ park and include speeches by notable people.
On May 17, the celebration of the anniversary of the heroic victory of the Greek army in the battle of Skra takes place.
The Battle of Skra was held on the 16th and 17th of May 1918 and it is one of the most important battles of World War I, which finally decided the fate of Greek Macedonia. The anniversary events are held with a memorial service at the Memorial of the fallen, delivering of wreaths, announcement of the fallen and a minute of silence, followed by dances of the cultural associations.
The hosting of theater groups and concerts by famous artists in the beautiful Hill Theatre of St. George make the summer evenings more interesting. The events titled "Under the Moonlight" take place throughout the summer until mid-September.
The Gastronomy Festival that is organized by the Chamber of Kilkis aims to promote local products; especially the products of local gastronomy and entrepreneurship. It is a special meeting place for the producers, the visitors and the consumers. With many cultural and mainly culinary events it is a celebration – a promotion institution of the modern and traditional gastronomic scene and the local identity of Kilkis.
